Barreiro is part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, standing out for its strategic location on the southern bank of the Tagus and its connections to Lisbon via the 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges. The municipality comprises the Union of Parishes of Alto do Seixalinho, Santo André and Verderena; Barreiro and Lavradio; Palhais and Coina; and the Parish of Santo António da Charneca.
